Can bed bugs fly?

No, bed bugs cannot fly; they can only crawl (quite quickly…).

Adult bed bugs have small, vestigial wing pads, but these are non-functional and do not allow flight.

While they can’t fly or jump, they’re still quite adept at hitching rides on clothing, luggage, or other items to infest new areas.

Bed bugs’ ancestors had wings, but these wings became reduced and vestigial over time. This likely evolved as an adaptation to life in small crevices and cracks, where wings would be impractical and in the way.
